Massage Therapy Program

Our 660-hour Massage Therapy program prepares graduates to take the State of Hawaii Massage Therapist Licensing Exam. Graduates of our program are prepared to launch successful, fulfilling, entry-level careers as highly skilled practitioners, and thus are prepared to promote the benefits of natural health and wellness to their clients and the community.

Course description : This course is an overview of the experience of touch, a historical perspective of massage and of the personalities that had a role in its evolution, as well as an overview of bodywork methods and the effects of massage. The course offers an understanding of the benefits of massage, contra-indications for massage, the basic strokes: effleurage, petrissage, friction, vibration and tapotement, the proper method of their use and where, when and how to use them, and also offers an introduction to the human body. Self Care is introduced and students are familiarized with its purpose.

Course description : This course teaches anatomy of the back, hip, front & back of leg, feet/hands, arms/shoulders, upper chest, neck/head/face, & abdominal region.  The course offers a practical understanding and importance of body mechanics. The skeletal system is studied. The course continues to teach Swedish Massage. Self Care is continued.

Course description : This course teaches the specific elements of feet and neck needed to complete a full body massage. A complete full body massage is practiced.  The course begins to teach specificity: offering an understanding of sports massage & ROM (Range of Motion) techniques.  A & P focuses on anatomy of the torso and pelvis and muscle physiology. The students will continue Self Care.

Course description : This course offers advanced Swedish techniques.  The Lymphatic system is studied & students learn lymphatic drainage massage.  Students will learn & practice client interviews, basic postural assessment, proper treatment modality & goal setting for individual massage clients.  SOAP charting and record keeping will be learned.  This course introduces the nervous system, endocrine system and Pre/Post-Natal Massage.  This course provides an introduction to Myofascial Release Techniques, Trigger Point therapy, PNF & ROM techniques, and adaptive massage.  Self-care is continued.

Course description : This course primarily teaches introduction to Acupressure/Shiatsu. Additionally, the student will learn the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory and circulatory systems.

Course description : Hawaiian Lomi Lomi is an ancient healing art brought with the early Polynesian settlers to Hawaii from their homelands in the South Pacific. Techniques varied according to families of the Kahuna/priestly class.  This course presents the history and some of the different techniques used, but uses the work of the late Auntie Margaret K. Machado of Kona, Hawaii, as the basic routine.  This course focuses on learning and integrating the connection of the autonomic nervous system and the digestive system, in establishing a holistic approach to restoring homeostasis to the client’s body, soul, and spirit.  Physiotherapy, detoxification, diet, exercise, and Ho’oponopono/conflict resolution are introduced in the course.

Course description : The Introduction to Energy course is an energy-based module, including energy anatomy, chakra balancing, or other energy work. It is an overview and introduction to the fundamentals and practice of Energy Medicine. Students will gain an understanding of the roles and applications of an energy therapist. Students will learn the principles of energy treatments. Students will be introduced to
Polarity Therapy.

Course description : This course primarily focuses on Business practices, including how to operate a clinic and how to start your own business, business ethics, and professional liability. Students will learn interviewing techniques, and will prepare a professional resume.

Course description : The course focuses on Cranial Sacral Therapy, following a 10-step protocol. Advanced massage techniques using Foot Reflexology will be taught.  Stone Massage & Spa Therapy basic techniques will be learned.

Course description : The course focuses on advanced anatomy and pathology and provides instruction in the reproductive and urinary systems.  Students will learn chair massage. Externship begins in the Heisei Clinic with a comprehensive orientation into the clinic.
